TRANSPORTATION IN SEGOVIA FOR STUDENTS
GENERAL OVERVIEW
Segovia is a small and very walkable city, so most daily activities can be done entirely on foot. Almost everything is within a 25-minute walk MAXIMUM, making walking the most common and convenient way to get around. Because of the city’s historic layout and the many stairs throughout the center, bicycles are not very practical and can even become inconvenient in certain areas in the city center.
For longer distances or when you prefer not to walk, Segovia offers a simple but efficient bus system. Buses are inexpensive, reliable, and especially useful for reaching places outside the historic center. Trips to the outskirts usually take around 15 minutes, making them a quick and budget-friendly option. Taxis are also available and can be useful if you need direct transportation or are carrying luggage.
It’s also important to note that many of the neighborhoods where students live have restricted car access. In these areas, private vehicles are not allowed in, helping keep the streets quieter and safer for pedestrians. Which is very important to take into consideration for the first time you arrive to the city carrying many bags.
Overall, getting around Segovia is easy, affordable, and stress-free, thanks to its compact size and straightforward transportation options.
Bus
Most lines run around the city center, connecting it with nearby neighborhoods and key areas like the university or the mall Luz de castilla. Stops are easy to find, buses run frequently, and tickets can be bought directly from the bus (Just be mindful, they only accept cash and won’t make change for any bills larger than a 10 EUR). Also you can purchase a bus card to have discounted tickets once you are settled in (check my cost of living section for more info)
Since the historic center has narrow, pedestrian-friendly streets, buses circulate mainly along the edges, making them a quick and practical option for reaching places outside the very center.
Taxi
Taxis in Segovia are easy to use, but it’s important to know that services like Uber or Glovo do not operate in the city.
To get a taxi, you can either call the official taxi number or go to one of the designated taxi stations. The two only taxi stands are located next to the Aqueduct and in Plaza Mayor.
Just be aware that taxis might take a long time to arrive if there is any special event or it is raining in the city. At the end of the day, it is a small town and the amount of taxis are limitated!
Walking
Walking is the main way people move around Segovia. The city is very safe, and its compact layout makes it easy to get anywhere on foot. Most streets in the center area are pedestrian-friendly, and locals as well as students choose walking as their primary form of transportation.
If you stay in the city center or nearby student areas, the university will almost always be within a 15-minute walk, making daily commutes simple and comfortable.
