Cost of living in Segovia

Utilities

Utilities are all the basic services you need to have in your apartment, which are: Water, Electricity, Heating, Wifi, Trash and community (community is a tax you pay the building for the maintance of it).

All of these expenses can be around 100-250 EUR per month for an apartment, depending on the size of the apartment and your personal consumption, the bill could be higher or lower ( for example, if you leave the heater on the whole day, the bill will be considerably higher)

Groceries

Groceries will vary depending on the place you are shopping, as depending on the supermarket you use, the bill can have a huge price difference.

Monthly, a good decent budget that can get you through the month would be 200EUR for groceries per person, with meat, fish and different products variety.

The main advice I give all students is to make one big monthly shoppings or two big monthly shoppings and to go to supermarkets more in the outskirts, because convinience stores or small super markets in the city center are expensive.

The most affordable supermarkets to do most of your shopping are LIDL, ALDI and MERCADONA, in that order.

If you are searching for more specific premium products or specific international products, CARREFOUR would be my choice but it is more expensive.

The supermarkets that will help you save money are more on the outskirts, so my recommendation would be to take the bus to the supermarket and then, come back home with a taxi so you don’t carry a lot of weight (the taxi is normally around 7-9 EUR). The distances are about 15 minutes by car.

Transportation

Luckily, most places you can reach by walking which makes us save a lot of money!

If you plan on taking the bus here and there around the city (not to madrid), you should purchase the “tarjeta de transporte público urbano” at the main bus station located at: Paseo Ezequiel González 20, Segovia. This card has a price of 2 EUR but it will save you so much. The normal one way bus ticket costs 1.15 EUR and with this card it will cost you 0.42 EUR.
